Investigation and Analysis of Non Manual Gestures Involved in LSF: Blinking
نویسندگان
چکیده
The present communication tackles Non Manual Gestures (NMG) description within the context of automatic generation of French Sign Language (LSF). To generate automatically the NMG it is necessary to have sufficient knowledge on their dynamics. Blinking is not much taken into account even if its importance is underlined in several studies. Our purpose is to improve our knowledge on eye blinking so as to be able to generate them. We introduce the results of our study and our eye blinking typology. We describe in further details the most frequent category in our corpus, called “segmentation”.

Toward Modeling Sign Language Coarticulation
Our researches focus on Sign Language (SL) gestures, which can be manual or non-manual (like facial expressions). This abstract presents the study we conduct in the field of French SL (LSF) processing. We intend to propose a coarticulation model of signs of LSF, thus we need accurate analysis of both isolated and in utterance signs. We follow a several step methodology: video corpus creation, a...
متن کاملSign Language Corpus Annotation: toward a new Methodology
This paper deals with non manual gestures annotation involved in Sign Language within the context of automatic generation of Sign Language. We will tackle linguistic researches in sign language, present descriptions of non manual gestures and problems lead to movement description. Then, we will propose a new annotation methodology, which allows non manual gestures description. This methodology ...
متن کاملAssessment and analysis of human laterality for manipulation and communication using the Rennes Laterality Questionnaire
Despite significant scientific advances, the nature of the left-hemispheric systems involved in language (speech and gesture) and manual actions is still unclear. To date, investigations of human laterality focused mainly on non-communication functions. Although gestural laterality data have been published for infants and children, relatively little is known about laterality of human gestural c...

متن کامل“Slight” of Hand: The Processing of Visually Degraded Gestures with Speech
Co-speech hand gestures influence language comprehension. The present experiment explored what part of the visual processing system is optimized for processing these gestures. Participants viewed short video clips of speech and gestures (e.g., a person saying "chop" or "twist" while making a chopping gesture) and had to determine whether the two modalities were congruent or incongruent. Gesture...
